The Better Business Bureau (BBB) of Minnesota and North Dakota went undercover this summer after concerns were raised about a St. Louis Park hormone therapy clinic.

The BBB says it "secret shopped" the company, HRC Medical Center, Inc., a clinic offering bio-identical hormone replacement therapy, to investigate the company's claims and intake processes.

According to the BBB, the St. Louis Park clinic told the secret shopper, who was in her 60's, that the therapies would increase her bone density by 18-percent and restore her hormone levels to what they were when she was in her "late 20's". Advertisements for the company claim the therapy treats a wide range of ailments including hot flashes, night sweats, loss of lean muscle, and depression. The ads also claimed that bone growth would be stimulated and the treatments were effective for 99.9-percent of people.

The BBB says it invited management of the St. Louis HRC clinic to meet and discuss the company's treatments and procedures, but the clinic failed to set up a meeting.

The BBB is advising customers to be aware of potential risks involved with the therapy after the company failed to provide information to substantiate the claims. The Bureau points out that bio-identical hormone replacement therapy is a marketing term not recognized by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
