HCG or Human Chorionic Gonadotropin is a hormone present in all humans.  In pregnant women, it is produced in the early stages of pregnancy to control metabolic function.  Research suggests that it also increases the metabolism and promotes lipolytic activity for non-pregnant men and women.

First discussed in a report published by Dr. A.T.W. Simeons in 1954, the use of HCG as a diet aid has seen rapidly increasing public interest in recent years. Typically, the HCG diet is a combination of low calorie diet coupled with the use of daily subcutaneous injections of HCG.  HCG is also used increasingly to stimulate testosterone production in male patients.
